Andrew Norton is looking at the cut in Quadrant funding, from $50K per annum to $35K, clearly a political move given that Overland continues to receive $60K. Best suggestions (1) reduce the size and number of articles in each edition, (2) principled lefties to complain about foul play.
Interesting to note the early history of Commonwealth funding, reported in Peter Coleman’s book The Heart of James McAuley. Funding was slow to come and always in short suppy compared with the Overland and Southerly. Club Troppo is advertising the best blog posts of the year competition, Also noting the mixed record of Paul Samuelson, including his massive mis-reading of the Soviet economy. Skepticlawyer has a nice piece on the emergence of a gay rugy football star in Wales.
Andrew Bolt continues to maintain the alternative point of view on climate change with onging reports on the scams and bungles that have been used to beat up the issue.
If Andrew is too “in your face” politically then try this collection of climate-related links from the tireless Michael Warby.
The Austrian Economists are debating whether there has to be deep tension in the free enterprise movement between zero state anarchists and minimum state liberals.  See the Roger Koppl comment on the need for caution in deregulation, he is a man to watch (I am something of a Roger Koppl groupie even though he is a bit far into maths for my taste).

  1. No right ring mag should ever want to receive government funding. In fact that best thing that could happen to really show up the left is for all right wing groups to move away from any form of government support. It’s the honest thing to do from a right wing perspective and it would also eventually allow a right wing government to cut off funding for what would still be on sucking on the government tit.

Cut more funding to Quadrant? Bring it on.

In their usual level of rank stupidity the reduction in Quadrant’s funding was obviously politically motivated. The closer it gets to zero the easier it will be to eliminate funding for all these tit suckers.

Furthermore it’s not the end of the world if Quadrant no longer survives.

    Keep cutting I says.

  2. All funding to magazines and periodicals should be abolished. If Quadrant and Overland can’t survive on the sales they generate, they should fold. Simple as that.
