Good news for Popper freaks!

with 48 comments

Good news everyone! The papers from the 2002 Popper Conference in Vienna are now available in three volumes from Ashgate.

What a great idea for a late Christmas present for someone you forgot!

Congratulations to Ian Jarvie, David Miller and Karl Milford who have been working day and night for several years to edit the proceedings.

One paper (at least) is missing due to an adverse report from the referees. They will be sorry, especially if I ever find out who they are!

Further thoughts about the affinity of Popper and the Austrians can be found here.

Getting back to the published proceedings, the volumes can be purchased individually if you balk at the cost of the three-volume set (I know I would). It will be interesting to see if these books make more impact than Malachi Hacohen’s wonderful biography of  Popper which I expected to prompt a small  resurgence of interest in Popper’s ideas, however I did not detect that effect. Several of the reviews of that book can be found at the end of this page.

Merry Xmas and Happy Reading in the new year!

At the moment I’m assessing thesis proposals and marking some 1st-year critical thinking assignments, so excuuuuse mmmmeeeeee if I can’t help myself. The pedantic urge is in me. Coursing through me. I AM THE PEDANTIC URGE!!! SHOW ME THE WAY LORD, THAT I MAY DO YOUR WORK!!!

  25. Sometimes I wonder why I bother to try and educate you people. No wonder Karl got a reputation for being cranky!

This is probably the wrong day of the week and the wrong time of the year, especially with the exciting events of the evening in view, but the reviews of Hacohen’s book are really interesting and I will give everyone the opportunity for some more pun next week by posting some extracts.
