This round goes to Science

The latest round of Science v Creationism appears to have gone in favour of science, with a US District Court ruling that Intelligent Design (ID) can not be taught in US public schools. The SMH is reporting that:

“Judge Jones concluded in his 139-page ruling that intelligent design violated the “establishment clause” of the First Amendment of the constitution, which bars a state mandated religion.

“In making this determination, we have addressed the seminal question of whether ID is science. We have concluded that it is not,” he concluded.

He reasoned also that “ID cannot uncouple itself from its creationist, and thus religious, antecedents”.

The judge also lashed out at activist members of the Dover school board whom he said had thrust an “untestable alternative hypothesis” to Darwin’s theory of evolution into the classroom“

Stay tuned for the inevitable appeal.
